Well said and very interesting. Don't forget though, that water also contributes to the "heat blanket".

I'm glad to see the diagram on how these are broken down exactly. A lot of times I "recycle" something, that is I give it to someplace that says they recycle it but you're never really sure what that means in the case of things like batteries or the mechanics of it. I'm always suspicious that it's just a disguise for throwing it away somewhere out of sight.
At present, in Thetford where I live, we save it all up for one day in the year when we can bring in hazardous waste like batteries for recycling.

I think there are some great points in here and it really illustrates exactly how pervasive batteries are in our current technological world. I would love you to supplement with some more precise avenues for battery recycling for readers.

Yes, but the environmental catastrophe which results from such dams cannot be measured. See: Aral Sea, Three Gorges Dam.
Dams created upriver flood plains which create a new ecosystem where previously it did not exist. Additionally, it creates a barrier which hampers natural movement of river life, with the exception of spawning fish like salmon because dams now use dam ladders.
Regardless, I agree that the energy source is clean, but like all things there is ALWAYS a down side!

Well I don't know.. I think the planet will be fine. It is we who are in trouble. If we die out as a species on the planet something else will come along to replace us, don't you think?
I have a freind who is fond of saying that the planet will shake us off like a bad rash. Maybe we're like the dinosaurs in their last days, although it seems we've made our own disaster.

Are we willing to make the sacrifices necessary for us to survive as a species?
